The circle of five has been for many centuries since the history of the kingdom. They were seen as the head of the kingdom. The inner circle of five were known as the king makers. Their words are law. They are higher in rank than the elders. They were seen as the second in power after Udeku, their gods. Even Kings obey and take their words seriously.


They were feared because through their gods' blessings, mystical powers were given to them. History holds that they once killed a very deadly and powerful witch and wizard who terrorized their kingdom and people feared them just like they feared Udeku, their deity. People nickname them, the living Oracles among men.


The cult always sacrifices virgins to their deity Udeku after every eight years to fight and protect their people and to provide for them apart from the annual sacrifice. Udeku the great deity of Mambo kingdom has earnestly done his part by protecting and providing for his people.


The cult usually sacrifices two virgins every eight years but recently Udeku was requesting something different from them.


Recently, the sister kingdom, the kingdom of Mmado which is also very powerful like the kingdom of Mambo has issued several war threats to the kingdom of Mambo as a result of this, Udeku the great deity needs a very powerful blood sacrifice to conquer his enemy kingdom but now he's weak and can't fight. He is very angry with his people and desperately requests the blood of five virgins instead of two to make him stronger than Udeme the gods of Mmado who was also very deadly and powerful.


For him to be stronger, he needs the blood with a mystical power and the children of the inner circle of five suits his taste better. Since the history of the kingdom, the circle has never sacrificed any of their children to the great deity until recently. Udeku has never requested for their children until now.


It was gathered that Udeme was now more powerful than Udeku due to the sacrifices the people of Mmado had been offering to Udeme their gods, who was known as a wicked deity.


Out of mortal anger, Udeku who was once kind turned evil and greedy, requesting for a bigger sacrifice which was the children of the inner circle of five.


He has seen the destinies of these children and unapologetically requested for them. If he could lay his hands on these children, he would be ten times powerful and stronger than Udeme or any other deity. 


Udeku wanted to swallow these children alive and not the usual killing and spilling of the blood for him. He wants to swallow them alive to absorb all their blood and potential to become more powerful than any other gods in existence.


Udeku has started killing the sons and daughters of his kingdom because the circle of five were using delayed tactics on him and that was annoying him a lot. He decided to start terrorizing the kingdom until they do the needful. It has been six months behind already and they have refused to comply.


They were protecting their children from him and his blood boils because of their delay. He was getting weaker by the day than the other gods and he might be defeated in battle and he wouldn't be known as the most powerful and strongest. Udeme was gradually becoming more powerful and stronger than he was and that made him more angry and bitter than before. He desperately desires to be the most powerful and strongest deity ever existed. 


Yet, the inner circle of five has been denying him the right to become that, and he won't take it for granted. He has vowed to be terrorizing the kingdom until they give him what's rightfully his. 


He wants their children and nothing else. And no one will stand against them on that and if anyone dared he would kill them without blinking an eye. He would rather wipe the whole kingdom just to lay his hands on the children of the inner circle of five.


I'm afraid of giving up my daughter for the ritual, Mmachi announced truthfully a few minutes after the elders had left. We all are. Ajayi chimed in contradicting what he had said earlier when the elders were around.


We can't keep on delaying this ritual anymore. It's already going into the ninth year. Anuri said disheartenedly.


There's nothing we can do other than to offer the sacrifice or risk the sons and daughters of our kingdom. Anthony muttered. It pained me that I will be sacrificing my only precious and gifted daughter to Udeku. I can't keep protecting her from him and so do all of you . He said cautiously.


I'm wondering why he turns greedy overnight. Michael asked in anger. We could have given him two virgins from any of the neighboring kingdoms. He trailed off angrily.


It's the quest for power. He desires to be the most powerful and strongest deity ever existed and he is getting weaker by the day and he wants to be stronger and more powerful than Udeme who is stronger than him now. If we offer our children to him, he would become stronger and more powerful than any other gods. Mmachi detailed.


If there's any other way to solve this problem, I would have done it to save our children. Anthony assured them.


There's nothing we can do but to offer him what he was requesting. We are leaders after all. We should lead by example and not be selfish. Ajayi said courageously.


Definitely we will. Anuri reasoned with him. Please can we tackle the issue of kingship? Ajayi chimped in.


We're already agonized about sacrificing our children to Udeku and you're concerned about kingship? Anuri snapped.


Maybe he wants to rule this great kingdom, Anthony said with a small smile trying to lighten the already tense mood. And if he can, then we will definitely choose him as the next king of this great kingdom. Michael mumbled.


Of course I am. Ajayi said arrogantly which earn a smirk from Mmachi. When the time comes we will know who the true king is and you of all people should know that Amuma our goddess also has a say in the King making after the sacrifice. Mmachi reminded them.


I noticed that Elder Onumo has an interest in kingship. Anuri muttered with a smirk.

The kingship is not our sole problem now, the sacrifice is and we need to do something about it fast because Udeku is on a rampage and we need to stop him. Michael reminded them thoughtfully.


Anthony and Mmachi you two are very lucky to have gotten married despite coming from different lineage of the circle of five members, you won't be answerable to anyone about sacrificing your daughter to the deity, but I'm afraid of what my husband will do if he finds out that I would be sacrificing our son to the deity. Anuri mumbled sadly.
